Humber-talking has set our priorities, this month we are to:
- Improving Road Safety – Launch of Burton Pidsea School Street scheme.
You’ve no idea what’s around the corner so slow down and give yourself time to react.
Be ready to meet cyclists and slow-moving vehicles when you least expect them on rural roads.
If you’re out for a country drive, look out for other road users. Don’t forget to “LOOK, LOOK & LOOK AGAIN” for those on two wheels.
Remember to share the road and we ask drivers to look out for Walkers, Cyclists and Horse Riders – Give them plenty of room
ACTION
As we leave winter and enter the spring months, members of the Holderness Policing Team will continue to be out and about policing our roads.
Officers will continue to support Bilton Primary School and will be assisting with another launch of the ERYC School Streets scheme with Burton Pidsea Primary School to reduce traffic along Church Street and encourage families to walk or cycle to school.
- Reduce ASB - Improve the quality of life in the community
This period is always one of our busiest, you will see a clear police presence on patrol in and around your neighbourhood over this period.
Action
The Holderness Neighbourhood Policing Team works with our key partners and the community to reduce anti-social behaviour and the anti-social use of motor vehicles. We provide proactive responses to reports of anti-social behaviour in our neighbourhood Area and are constantly reviewing our patrol strategy to address this. We are working hard with partners to address this and ensure our market towns and rural communities are a safe place to live and work.
UPDATE - During January, reports of anti-social behaviour have fallen to three; two reports of nuisance motorbikes in the Back Lane area of BURSTWICK and East Newton Road, ALDBROUGH. A property in ALDBROUGH had eggs thrown at their windows around 5:30pm 26/12/23.
- Tackling Rural Crime:
Rural crime is not limited to the farmyard. Serious and organised crime groups are often linked to rural and wildlife crime particularly in relation to theft of agricultural machinery and poaching like hare coursing.
Holderness patrols are reminding farmers to review their security and to keep their properties/equipment safe. In relation to the security of Tractor GPS Receiver and Screens, please visit the Police website for crime prevention advice around MARK IT, REMOVE IT and LOCK IT.
ACTION: Operation GALILEO has restarted for the season. Throughout this year we have worked with volunteers on the Rural Watches across Holderness to deter rural criminality. In addition, we will utilise all the available technology, crime prevention techniques and assistance from the Rural Crime Team to deter and detect crime.
How you can help
Your local Neighbourhood Policing Team appreciates the importance of being in the right place, at the right time, for the right reasons to reassure the public, improve public confidence and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the area in which we all live and work.
We encourage all residents to call and report any issues where they live so that we can deal with any issues and step up our patrols in that area.
If you feel that there are other issues affecting you or your local community that should be given priority, please inform your local councillors or your Neighbourhood Policing Team.

School Streets
School Streets is a new scheme to restrict access to traffic outside some primary schools at opening and closing times.
The East Riding council is restricting access to traffic outside some primary schools at opening and closing times. This will help reduce congestion and improve the local environment.
We are working in partnership with primary schools to launch School Streets, a pioneering scheme to transform roads outside schools, so that only pedestrians and cyclists can use them at school start and finish times.
Many schools experience traffic-related issues at the start and end of the school day. East Riding of Yorkshire Council have introduced School Streets to address these issues by restricting traffic in the streets outside some schools at drop-off and pick-up times.
The School Streets initiative aims to:
- cut down on traffic and parking pressures outside the school
- discourage car journeys to school and encourage more sustainable, active forms of travel
- make the streets outside the school a more pleasant environment at the start and end of the school day.
With School Streets we aim to create a more pleasant environment for everyone, while making sure residents, businesses, pedestrians, and cyclists can still use the road.
Community Payback is a scheme that involves people who have been sentenced by the courts to do unpaid work in our communities to improve them. If you are a community organisation, you can have a say in where that work happens by nominating places that you feel would benefit from it.
It may be an alleyway that’s full of rubbish that needs tidying up, wasteland requiring clearing, graffiti removing from walls or decorating your community centre, the jobs can be big or small. Our communities should be safer spaces for everyone, and Community Payback can help to make improvements.

You can nominate your community project by visiting the government website, who will then contact you and discuss whether community payback is appropriate. By carrying out this work we are encouraging offenders to take more responsibility for their actions and become better citizens.
Nominate your Community Payback project by visiting the HM Prison and Probation Service webpage at www.gov.uk/nominate-community-payback-project
