The Parish Council comprises of the Holderness villages of Fitling, Garton and Grimston.
MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL MEETING HELD
ON TUESDAY 3rd JUNE 2025
PRESENT: Cllrs H Teasdale - Chair, V Clappison, A Crawforth, D Dee, J Harvey, S Mattinson and A Nendick.
There were no apologies for absence as all members were in attendance.
Consideration of Councillor’s declaration of interests
A number of members declared changes to their register of interests by completing the required documents which the Clerk confirmed would be forwarded to ERYC for uploading to its website.
Public session
A member of the public referred to an overgrown hedgerow in Lowfield Lane Fitling which was restricting visibility on the bend for road users and that images of the site would be made available and the Clerk confirmed that when to hand they would be forwarded to ERYC for attention.
PCSO Bainton confirmed that during the “biking” season the Police would be monitoring the speed of motorcyclists and other vehicle users on the B1242 corridor as in past years.
He also referred to Operation Snap an online platform which allows members of the public to submit video evidence of driving offences which they have witnessed which the Police consider will improve road safety and where necessary prosecute those that commit driving offences.

These were agreed as a true record and signed by the Chair.
Matters arising from the minutes
Flooding on B1242 and Back Lane - The Clerk reported that the Area Engineer had informed him that jetting and survey works of the culvert across the B1242 and works to the Back Lane headwall had now been completed and that an e-mail from ERYC would be forwarded for onward transmission to SSE requesting that the company consider providing grilles on its land to help alleviate debris entering the culvert in future.
Proposed First Aid courses - It was agreed that the two courses originally scheduled for the 12th and 19th June be cancelled and that these now be held in either September/October after the summer holidays.
Planning
Erection of single storey extension to rear at Crawshaw Farm Annexe Westfield Lane Fitling
- 25/01140/PLF and 25/01142/PLB
It was agreed that no objections be made to the above applications.
SSE Community Liaison Group
It was reported that the next meeting of the group would be held on the 19th June at which SSE would be asked for an update on the possibility of the company providing grilles on its land referred to earlier in matters arising from the minutes together with a request that the company carry out a general beach tidy up.
Correspondence
The Clerk reported that he had previously circulated the latest Police newsletter and notification was received from ERYC of one addition to the register of electors.
Neighbourhood Watch/Farmwatch
It was reported that there had been no reports of any incidents within the parish of late.
Financial matters
It was reported that the bank balance was currently £11,109.75
Any other business
St Michael's Church - Cllr Harvey reported that she had recently attended a meeting at St Margaret's Church in Hilston regarding its sustainability in future and wondered whether the future of St Michael's Church was secure moving forward.
Highway issues - It was agreed to refer a pothole near Field View in Fitling Lane and surface carriageway cracking nearby together with verge damage on both sides of Humbleton Road to ERYC for attention.
Garton Show - It was reported that the show would be taking place on the 29th June in the Mill Field on Aldbrough Road with a horse show, dog show and a tractor run planned along with a number of further attractions on the day.
Next meeting - The next meeting to be held at Aldbrough Village Hall on the B1242 on Tuesday 1st July 2025 at 7.30pm unless otherwise advised.
