Bursaries and Grants.

What are Bursaries & Discretionary Grants?  Bursaries are a fixed amount per child - at the beginning of the year, the Trustees decide the amount and whether we can afford to give a bursary to every child that year or just to chidren/young people entering a Key Stage; it depends on how much money we have.  We don't means test the award of a bursary.  Discretionary Grants are for variable amounts and are awarded to those families or individuals with extra educational needs which they cannot afford for any reason.  We do means test the award of a discretionary grant and we may work with other Agencies (including schools) to determine needs.

Who can apply?  Anyone who has been resident in Humbleton, FITLING or Flinton, for more than one year, who has a child/young person living with them can apply.  If you're a resident aged over 18 and still in education (eg. university, apprenticeship) then you can apply for yourself.  If youy qualify, you can apply every year.

How to Apply.  Fill in the form from the website www.heron-educational-foundation.org.uk  or send an email to herontrustcio@gmail.com and we'll let you have an application form.

Process and Amounts.  Once we have your completed form it will be circulated for approval by the Trustees.  This usually only takes a few days as our only criteria is the age of the child/young person (3-21) and the residency qualification (at least the last 12 months in one of the 3 villages listed above).  The amounts for Bursaries vary each year depending on how much we can afford - but it is usually around £250 per child.  Amounts for Discretionary Grants depend on what you need, how we can assist and what we can afford - get in touch and we will do our best to help.
